NCS 2011

The Granada girls won the NCS DI Championship for the second year in a row. Carina Novell took 3rd despite twisting her ankle and injuring her calf four days earlier. Maryann Gong raced well and took 4th place in 18:17, just one second back of Carina.

Kelsey Girardelli battled a long lasting cold to take 16th. An ill Alyssa Horning raced superbly taking 18th and raced more than a minute faster than last year. Sarah Franklin raced the final hill amazingly well, passing two Amador girls in the process, crossing the finish line in 19th place.

Victoria Winter and Sara Novell completed the course in 20:10 and 20:49. This was a great experience for them as they hope to pace the team to another fantastic season in 2012.

The varsity boys raced like Prefontaine. They made it a “pure guts” race. The black and gold paced through the first mile perfectly in 5:11-5:23 for all seven runners. Through the first mile and a half the Matadors were winning the race. In the second half the men faded a bit which resulted in a 5th place team finish and the third fastest team time in school history. All five scorers raced personal bests on the Hayward course.

Tyler Menniti’s sensational kick over 200 meters in length, passing four other competitors, earned him a seventh place medal and a trip to the State Championships.

Joshua Knight had an outstanding performance with a time of 16:15 as did senior Patrick Patterson in 16:16. Spencer Jeppson had a personal best of 16:28 as well as senior Grant Salk in 16:33.

Congratulations Matadors…LET’S GO!
